Choral Ensembles & Vocal Jazz
The Seycove Choral Program strives to instill in students a lifelong passion for expressing themselves confidently and powerfully in harmony with others. Our mission is to foster the development of musicianship and friendship, artistry and empathy, and self-confidence and lofty aspiration that enriches students’ lives beyond the choir room and their school.
Seycove's Concert, Chamber, and Vocal Jazz Choirs are performance-based courses designed for students who seek an engaging, challenging and rewarding musical experience throughout high school. Through learning collaboratively and taking creative risks in an encouraging environment, students gain confidence, self-discipline, and enhanced social and communication skills in addition to advanced music literacy and extensive vocal technique. Students in Seycove's Choral Program are part of a choir family throughout their high school years that continuously encourages all singers to strive for excellence not only in music, but in every subject area. Seycove choir students often find themselves in positions of leadership within their ensembles and can expect a balance of hard work, fun and stress relief.
The Choral Program at Seycove offers three types of ensembles: Concert, Chamber, and Vocal Jazz. The course offerings are as follows:
Choir 8/9 | Intermediate Choir | Intermediate Vocal Jazz | Advanced Choir | Senior Chamber Choir | Jazz in the Box | Equal Voice Vocal Jazz
*Advanced courses like Sr. Chamber Choir and Vocal Jazz are to be taken in conjunction with Advanced Choir. Sr. Chamber Choir and Jazz in the Box are by audition and recommendation.

Melodie Langevin, B.Mus., B.Ed., M.ED, Choir Director
Melodie is the Director of Choirs at Seycove Secondary, a vibrant school nestled in a town residents affectionately call "The Cove" in North Vancouver. An avid chorister herself, Melodie discovered a passion for conducting while completing her Bachelor of Music degree at the University of Manitoba. She studied with soprano Valdine Anderson and sang under Dr. Elroy Friesen and with several other ensembles in Winnipeg including Camerata Nova, an innovative ensemble that performs early, contemporary, and Indigenous-infused repertoire.
In 2013, Melodie moved to Vancouver to complete her Bachelor of Education degree. Not long after her move, she began singing with the Phoenix Chamber Choir and the St. Andrew’s-Wesley Vocal Ensemble, and over the past few years she has also sung concerts with Vancouver’s Postmodern Camerata, Aurora Chamber Choir, and musica intima, and sung with various church ensembles throughout Vancouver. Melodie has also been a Music Literacy Teacher for the Vancouver Choral Arts Society, volunteers as the Choral Clinics Coordinator for BCMEA, and she often records vocals for the Cypress Choral Music Publishing company. In addition to her position as Director of Choirs at Seycove, Melodie is also one of four directors for Chor Leoni Men's Choir's educational outreach program called MYVoice, leading the North Shore ensemble of young Tenors and Basses.
At the end of June 2022, Melodie graduated from the University of Calgary with a Masters in Educational Research with a specialization in Educational Leadership. In November 2022, she and her husband are expecting their first child.
